 In 2030, high urban density will make autonomous driving the standard within cities. Driving for pure pleasure and adventure will therefore shift outside urban areas. To meet this future need, I created a simple yet sustainable concept vehicle.

 

While everyday urban use will favor practical, higher-clearance combi-style vehicles for sport and utility purposes, true off-road machines will be reserved for passion and adventure. This concept is a classic five-passenger combi that comfortably accommodates a family plus luggage, delivering real driving pleasure. Its off-road capabilities open the door to unforgettable experiences — climbing rocks on California’s Rubicon Trail, reaching a mountain peak with the whole family and a picnic basket, and fully engaging the senses, soul, and emotion of every passenger.

 

Inspired by the Mercedes-Benz GL class, I completely redesigned the vehicle to create an entirely new look while preserving the spirit of a true off-road icon. For more than two decades, this type of vehicle has served military, medical, and — above all — adventurers, sportsmen, and hunters.

 

The rectangular front grille and slender full-LED headlights are integrated into a single carbon-fiber piece. The windshield continues into a sharp division line that also defines the fenders — a signature detail. Above the finely extruded rectangular fenders, a pair of outline lights runs along the sides of the tapered hood. Behind the front wheel arches, air-intake openings echo the line of the door handles. Clean aerodynamic lines flow from the hood over the roof to the rear, ending in a subtle deflector at the upper edge of the rear windshield that guides airflow. Blue-glowing stripes underline both the side doorsteps and the rear bumper. The traditional spare wheel has been replaced by a gasoline tank, serving both as a distinctive design element and a practical survival feature.

 

I envision a full-electric powertrain with permanent all-wheel drive powerful enough for a vehicle of this size. A hybrid combustion option remains available for situations when battery charge is low, providing backup petrol power to recharge the electric system on the go.This technical sculpture appears muscular and highly athletic in motion, yet remains elegant. The lightweight body shell, made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, reduces energy consumption while adding strength without excess weight. Variable body-shell height ensures an excellent approach angle and generous ground clearance. One-piece carbon-fiber integrated seats and wheel designs further reduce the number of parts, weight, and assembly complexity.

 

The 27-inch carbon-fiber or aluminium rims are purpose-designed for the concept. Their five-spoke layout continues tangentially into an adhesive tread pattern of matching colour for visual harmony. The agricultural-inspired tread delivers outstanding grip on gravel, mud, and the rocks of the Rubicon Trail.
